Tournament Rules
Amendments to Rules for 2013
The following rules have been amended:
Elligible Fish - The restriction of weighing the Jr. Angler fish towards the boat total is removed.
Conduct - This section has been added to the tournament rules and states the following: Sportsmanship,
boat courtesy and safety are expected from all participants. No unsportsmanlike or unruly behavior will be tolerated at any time during this tournament. Any violation may subject the member and or boat to disqualification, including forfeiture of any Tournament prizes, from this tournament and being banned from future tournaments.

Date of Tournament
June 8, 2013
Registration
Entry fee is $400. A boat entry includes four T-Shirts and four tickets to the fish fry. Entries received on or before May 17th will get an extra hour for weigh in. There will be a “Happy Hour for the Extra Hour” at Woody’s West End Tavern on that day from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. No entries will be accepted after the conclusion of the Captain’s Meeting. Junior anglers are anglers 16 and under and must be registered as a junior angler; fish used for Jr. Division cannot be used for boat total. Non angler food cost is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 13 and under.
Captains' Meeting
There will be a Captain’s meeting on Thurs., June 6th at 7:00 p.m. at the Woody’s West End Tavern, 600 Payne Dr, Miami Springs, FL 33166. A representative from each boat must be present. The rules of this Tournament may be amended verbally or in writing at the time of the meeting. No changes will be permitted after the conclusion of the Captain’s meeting. Anglers are responsible for being well informed of the rules.
License and Limits
All participating anglers must possess a valid Florida Salt Water Fishing License. According to Florida law, only 10 dolphins per licensed fisherman, not to exceed 60 per vessel, may be kept each day.
Rules
IGFA rules and regulations will apply throughout this Tournament. No hand lines or electric reels may be used, otherwise, there are no tackle or bait restrictions. All protests concerning conduct or rules violations must be filed
in writing with the Tournament Committee the day of the violation no later than 5:00 p.m. Fishing is limited to U.S. or International waters only (Bahamas, Grand Bahamas, etc. are off limits)

Eligible Fish
Tournament prizes to be awarded for dolphin, (Coryphaena Hippurus), unless otherwise indicated. All fish presented for weigh-in must be in fresh, edible condition, and caught during the Tournament. Acceptability of fish will be determined by the Tournament Committee. Minimum acceptable weight of 5 pounds is required for entry of a fish into the Tournament. Anglers are urged to release those fish not to be entered. Billfish are not eligible for entry into the Tournament. Therefore, any billfish brought to weigh-in location shall result in his/her forfeiture of any claim to the Tournament prizes. Largest Fish category is for Kingfish, Tuna, or Wahoo (dolphin not included).
Scoring
Only fish weighed in the presence of the angler who caught it will be officially entered in the Tournament. Each boat may enter up to 4 dolphins. (5lb. Minimum per fish) Tournament prizes to be awarded by total weight - one point per pound of fish. All entries must be weighed in at the designated weigh-in location (Miami Springs, Downtown Circle). Tournament anglers may be subject to video recording at weigh-in and or polygraph test. All entries become property of The Miami Springs Optimist Club and may be used for the fish fry during the Awards Ceremony.
Tie
In the event of a tie in weight, the winner shall be determined by the earliest time.
Communications
All participating boats should be equipped with a working VHF radio. Anglers should be on VHF channel 78.

Tournament Hours
Lines in at 6:00 a.m. Weigh-in begins at 3:00 p.m. All entries must be present at the designated weigh-in location by 4:00 p.m. to qualify. If your payment was received on or before May 17th then you will have until 5:00 p.m. (weigh master will have a list of boats that qualify).
Weather Conditions
In the case of bad weather, the Tournament Committee will determine whether the Tournament should be postponed until the following weekend. All boats and anglers are responsible for their own well-being and the determination of safe sea conditions.
Refunds
No refunds will be given or substitutions allowed.
Release of Liability
All participants in the Tournament enter at their own risk and assume all liability for personal injury and/or property damage. Officials, committee members and all persons connected directly or indirectly with the operation of Miami Springs/Virginia Gardens Optimist Club Annual Dolphin Tournament shall be exempt from any liability for loss, damage, negligence, harm or injury suffered by any participant, entrant, sports-fisherman, their companions, boat captains, crew members, vessels and equipment which may occur as a result of participation in the Tournament.
Awards Ceremony
Tournament Winners will be awarded their prizes during ceremonies held at the Miami Springs, Downtown Circle after the fish fry. The fish fry will start at approximately 5 p.m.
